Rebelmatic’s energetic performance “LIVE From Fuzz Fest! DCxPC Vol. 18”

Written By by Audio Mirage Studios

NYC hardcore punk powerhouse Rebelmatic shakes the foundation and tears the bloody roof off on the latest DCxPC vinyl release – Volume 18 – a live performance recorded at the electrifying Fuzz Fest in West Virginia. As a bit of vinyl geek myself, I’m smitten with this release. A limited 200 copy pressing of a rowdy, energetic performance by a kick ass band that was once referenced by H.R. himself of Bad Brains as a band that reminds him of his own legendary band. WOW.

As usual DCxPC sweetens the deal by holding a raffle during the pre-order period for a chance to win in addition, a V.M.Live record, the corresponding volume, V.M.Live 18 – Naked Agression on 7″ vinyl. There’s only a couple more days to snag this thing on pre-order and I’m doing so, you should too!

Wondering where to get your hands on this piece of rebellious history? The live album will be available exclusively on DCxPC Live’s website and Rebelmatic’s Bandcamp page. It won’t be released on streaming services. And for my two cents, not that anyone is asking for it, but hey that’s a fringe benefit of being a blogger isn’t it? Exclusive to Bandcamp and vinyl adds an element of intimacy between the band and their fans, creating a community. Fans have the exclusive opportunity to own a physical copy, a collector’s item, and c’mon man, that embodies the true spirit of punk. Okay, I’ll step off my soapbox now.

It also just so happens to be Bandcamp Friday this Friday, Bandcamper alert! And that too is a great way to support this release as you update your wishlist this week.

Rebelmatic not only posses heavy hardcore roots but also an unmistakable influence of hip-hop. The energy on this record emits right through it. The lead singer Creature, aka “Creech,” works the audience into joyous frenzies as the band rocks the crowd into cheering “Re-bel-matic, Re-bel-matic!” at various times throughout the set. It is a remarkable thing to have that much energy transcend a record that well. It makes you wish you were there to see it, and it’s great time capsule to have catpured on wax. Rebelmatic delivered a performance that was nothing short of explosive.

They open the set with “Pony,” an uptempo song with a catchy “call to action” style hook spelling out “P-O-N-Y” during the choruses. The guitar solo in that song is just 100 percent wicked and filthy. Creech’s vocals are so cool, in a way reminds me of the late great Omar Higgins stylistically. If I were to pick a favorite track off the set, I’d have to go “Insult to Injury.” So hard. Has a surfy Pacific Northwest feel to it too. Love the gang vocals they put on many tracks, on this one the “stuck in the mud” chant just sounds so cool.

They play fast and furiously throughout “Blood and Gold,” another one of my favorites of the set, and even though it’s live, the snare rolls are so solid and punchy throughout the whole song. They change the vibe up about halfway through the set with “Feel Some Type of Way” funking things up a bit and showcasing some of the hip hop influence they possess in-between spurts of hard rocking.

Then get the pit circling again with “Show and Prove,” one of the more Metal sounding songs to me. Anthemic vibes rain down on upon the crowd with “Born to Win.” One thing I love about the ethos of this band is the underlying spirit of community and unity throughout their set, ensuring that their audience is engaged as they veer into smashingly heavy movements.

“Nearly every album has been touched by Josh and Danger Room Recording Services. For shows recorded in Orlando, he recorded, mixed and mastered them. For those outside of Orlando he mixed and mastered most if not all of them. DCxPC Live would not have come into existence without him. This album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Joshua Dobbs.”
